In this article I'll show you how you can easily add Google Fonts in Figma.

Did you know that Figma actually uses the Google font library and that most fonts are available by default within the Figma library?

However, if you don't find a specific font that you would like to use from the Google library, we'll show you how to import it in Figma in just a few minutes.

Are you ready? Let's get started!

Add Custom Google fonts

It's worth noting that you have the flexibility to not only install Google fonts, but also other custom fonts from other popular websites, since the Google font library may not encompass every font in existence. Many alternative fonts can be found on a variety of different websites.

If you happen to be using the standalone desktop version, you'll need to ensure you have the necessary font drivers on your computer, such as .ttf or .woff files, to facilitate the installation of specific custom fonts.

This allows you to further expand your font choices beyond what's readily available in the default library.

Installing Google fonts for Figma (Desktop version)

Once you've downloaded these custom fonts, you can easily integrate them in Figma.

Simply double-click on the font files to initiate the installation process. In most cases, after installation, these fonts should automatically become accessible within your Figma workspace.

However, if you find that the custom font you're seeking doesn't appear right away, don't worry.

You can attempt a quick resolution by closing Figma and then reopening it.

This step often triggers the application to recognize and incorporate the newly installed fonts seamlessly into your design environment.

Installing Google fonts for Figma (Browser version)

When working with the browser version of the app, the process for installing fonts is slightly different.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Open a new browser tab and perform a web search for "figma.com/downloads/."

From the search results, click on the link that directs you to the official Figma downloads page.

2. On the Figma official website, you'll have the option to choose between downloading the MacOS version or the Windows version, depending on the operating system you're using.

3. After selecting the appropriate version for your operating system, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the Figma desktop application.

After installing this driver on your PC, Figma will pick up automatically every local font that is on your machine. To make sure you do get your local fonts on Figma, after you go through this process, you can close and then reopen the Figma tab on your browser.

One important thing to note is that if you are using the browser version of Figma and you are using a Chrome OS or Linux device, local fonts are currently not supported so you will be limited to Google’s web fonts.

This is everything you need to know about using custom fonts whether you are using the desktop app or the browser version of Figma.
