Material Design Icons plugin, created by Grappex, offers you over 35,000 icons in PNG and SVG form. Of the 35k icons, 6,800+ are free icons provided by Google, and 28,000+ are also free icons provided by Icons8. Just like the name suggests, these icons are of a Material Design nature.

Material Design is a design system created by Google to aid in building high-quality digital experiences for iOS, Android, Flutter, and the web. It is inspired by the textures of the physical world – and according to Google, Material Design should mimic the feel of pen and paper.

How can I use the Material Design Icons plugin for Figma?

Material Design Icons

This plugin comes with plenty of features.

First, install Material Design Icons on their official Figma community site page. The plugin will open itself once you have clicked Try it out and pressed the Save button next to it.

It is relatively easy to use the plugin. Material Design Icons allows you to search by name, or scroll through the entire list.

You can also filter the icons by categories – such as filled, outlined, rounded, etc.

This is quite important if you’re going for a very specific look in your project, and want to maintain the same aesthetic.

Categories

Other categories that you can filter your search by are size, icon type (SVG or PNG), and color

You can also access categories of icon types, by pressing on the three lines on top of the plugin tab.

Adding the icons to your project is quite easy, you just need to click on them.

Given that these icons are in SVG form, you know that they are fully editable in your Figma canvas as well.

Is Material Design Icons plugin for free in Figma?

Yes, using any of the icons from this plugin is free.

There is a small detail to keep in mind though – you can use all the Google icons without any repercussions, but you do have to credit Icons8 for their icons. To do this, you can just add a link back to Icons8 in your project.

If you don’t want to add a link, you should consider buying a license from Icons8.
