Drag and drop method

This is a simple process that can be done quickly by following these steps:

N.B. One thing you must know is that your sketch files will remain the same when moved to figma.

What to expect when moving from Sketch to Figma

When moving from sketch to figma, you’ll need to get accustomed to changes in names of functions. These are two important changes to take note of:

  • Artboards to Frames
  • Symbols to Components

If you want to learn more about the differences between these two softwares, please check the video below as it will give you an overview of the key differences and features when moving from Sketch to Figma in just 3 minutes:

‍

‍

Artboards to Frames

In sketch the pages displayed on the Layer panel on the left are called Artboards. In figma this pages are called Frames.

To create new frames in figma, use the short cut “F” on your keyboard.

Symbols to Components

Figma has a “Components” function akin to Sketch’s “Symbols” feature.

When you migrate from Sketch to Figma, your symbols will be converted into components, and a dedicated page will be generated to organize these new components within the file.

To turn a selected object into a component, press:

  • Ctrl + Alt + K (Windows)
  • Cmd + Option + K (Mac)

N.B. Fonts from Sketch are transferred to Figma if available in Figma’s font catalog. Missing fonts may trigger an error; resolve this by importing new fonts into Figma and using “Replace fonts” for text updates.

Overall, switching from Sketch to Figma can be a smooth transition, as both design software tools share many similarities while offering their unique features.

The most crucial step is to familiarize yourself with Figma's interface and learn the basics of Figma, which we can surely help you with.
