Streamlining Collaboration: Mastering Comments in Figma

March 18, 2024

Effective communication is the cornerstone of successful collaboration, and Figma's commenting feature provides a powerful tool to facilitate seamless teamwork. Whether you're working with designers, developers, or stakeholders, comments allow you to share feedback, ask questions, and coordinate efforts effortlessly. In this video, we'll explore the intricacies of commenting in Figma, empowering you to streamline your collaborative workflows.

Adding Comments

Adding comments in Figma is a breeze. There are two primary methods:

1. Click on the "C" icon in the top toolbar, or

2. Navigate to the "Comments" section and click "Add Comment."

Once you've selected your preferred method, you can add a comment anywhere on the canvas. Simply type your message, such as "Substitute this with another image," and hit "Submit."

Mentioning Collaborators

One of the powerful features of Figma's commenting system is the ability to mention collaborators directly. By typing the "@" symbol followed by the collaborator's name or email address, you can easily tag them in your comment. This ensures that the relevant people are notified and can quickly address your feedback or inquiries.

Enhancing Comments with Emojis

To add a touch of personality and emphasis to your comments, Figma allows you to incorporate emojis. Simply type the emoji shortcode or use the built-in emoji picker to insert your desired emoji directly into the comment field.

Managing Comment Visibility

As your project progresses and the number of comments grows, you may find it helpful to declutter your canvas by hiding or showing comments as needed. Figma provides a keyboard shortcut, "Shift + C," to toggle comment visibility on and off. This feature allows you to focus on the design without visual distractions while ensuring that all comments remain accessible when needed.

Resolving and Editing Comments

Once a comment has been addressed or is no longer relevant, you can mark it as "Resolved" by clicking the "Resolve" button. This action helps keep your comment thread organized and focused on outstanding issues.

However, if you need to modify an existing comment, Figma allows you to edit and update it easily. Simply click on the comment action menu and select "Edit." Make your changes, and save the updated comment when you're done.

Additionally, Figma provides options to copy a comment link, delete a comment, or mark it as unread. These features offer flexibility in managing your comment workflow and ensuring that important feedback remains visible and actionable.

By mastering the art of commenting in Figma, you can foster a collaborative environment where feedback flows seamlessly, questions are answered promptly, and design decisions are made with input from all stakeholders. Effective communication not only streamlines the design process but also ensures that the final product meets the highest standards of quality and user satisfaction.

So, embrace the power of comments in Figma, and watch as your collaborative efforts soar to new heights of efficiency and productivity!
